Dream Symbols: W

A B D E F G J K L M O P R U V X Y Z

Wages
(Money)

Dreams about wages will most likely link with if you feel valued in the workplace,  it could also be about if you get back equal to what you put into something, this can link with your job, relationships with colleagues or bosses, or relate to your spiritual work rather than your physical work. Think about the scenario in the dream to help you link the symbolism with the part of your life where you don't feel valued and appreciated for what you do.
If you lose your wages in the dream then you feel like you are working for nothing or you feel like the work you do isn't bringing you fulfilment, or perhaps you have lost your vitality for the job.
If your wages are stolen then it might be a representation of a situation that takes your energy away from your job or career, perhaps your health isn't up to the role anymore or your home life has become more important than your work life.
If you do not receive your wages or are underpaid in your dream then you feel undervalued, you work hard but do not see the return for the things that you do.
What you have earned spiritually can be expressed by wages in dream language, payment for the good work that you have done or as a way to acknowledge the progress that you have made. Not that anyone else is judging you, its more about getting you to think about how well you have done or how far you have progressed, sometimes we need to notice when progress has been made, and remember the enjoyment of helping other people when there is no return.

Waiter/Waitress
(Food/Café/Restaurant)
If you are served food or drink in a dream then someone is trying to care for you, they are attempting to help you feel satisfied with what you have on your plate, the quality of the food will help you understand if you are happy with your situation at the moment or if it is leaving you with a bad taste in your mouth.

Sometimes we cannot taste the food in our dreams to any great extent and this is because we do not know if what is being offered will satisfy our needs. Tasteless food also represents the idea of feeling unloved, bored or unsatisfied with life.
Being served food can also symbolise what kind of deal you are being offered in other ways like a new job or role.
Raw food symbolises a raw deal or one which isn’t quite ready to be successful, whereas overcooked or burnt food equals sustenance that is past its use for you. These translations can link with financial security because this does, of course, help towards your own contentment.
A waiter or waitress serving you a drink in a dream will have the same symbolism as being served food because a drink is just another symbol of what you want or need to feel satisfied. Therefore, how thirsty or hungry you are, provides a symbol for the extent of your desires. The waiter or waitress serving you represents who or what is on offer to help you get your personal desires.

A thirst for knowledge?
Being waited on?
Waiting for what you want?

Waiting
(Disappearing/Hidden)
This has a similar meaning to hidden and disappearing in dream language, so look up both. You are playing the waiting game if it has filtered into your dream, maybe you need to learn some patience and understand that some things are worth waiting for. This type of dream happens when you are sick of not being able to get what you want when you want it.

Consider what you were waiting for in the dream, if you were waiting for a person then the dream will link with something like waiting for them to make their move, or waiting for them to change, etc. Waiting for food or drink will link with your wait to feel happy or satisfied in your life, maybe it's about the fact that you should stop waiting and make changes yourself.
Waiting in line is a way for you to recognise that what you are waiting for is dependant on other people, for example, there are other people in front of you on the career ladder or perhaps you are behind other people in someone's line or queue of responsibilities. Basically, the symbolism is about not being first in the pecking order, unless of course in your dream you were at the front of the queue?

Waking
(Awakening/Nightmares)
False awakenings happen in a dream because it is a way to remind you that you are attempting to escape from a situation unsuccessfully. It is time to wake up and change the old ways of doing things, only you have real control over your life and the direction it takes, and now is the time to take that control.

When you are trying to wake yourself up in a dream it is usually because you do not like the dream you are having, and you wish to escape a force that is keeping you trapped within its clutches. If in the dream you know that you are dreaming then you are aware that you do have overall control, its how you choose to take control that's important, having the power within yourself to not let anyone control your dream and your life. Fear is the biggest obstacle people can face, dreams can help you understand your own fears and the fight you are having when you are trying to wake yourself up in a dream is actually with yourself. These types of dreams are also helping you to understand that your own power is superior to negative forces when you have no fear, and you can use that same control of power to direct your life. Waking up from a vivid dream happens so that you remember and take notice of the dream contents.
Wake up and smell the roses!
A wake-up call!
Fear is your only real enemy!

Walking
(Destination/Journey)
(All about Shoes)
Journey dreams help you to understand if you are on the right path or if adjustments need to be made. They warn you about obstacles and pitfalls that are in your way and give you clues as to the best way forward.

If you are aware of walking in a dream it can show that you need to take life step by step and that you must use your own energy and drive to get you to where you want to be and not rely on other people. Everyone must ultimately walk their own path and a walking dream usually highlights your own personal goal and not ones that you share with the people around you. This dream might, therefore, portray your spiritual path, but other symbols will be important to the overall translation and to the spiritual journey you are on.
It is not unusual in a walking dream to feel as if you are not getting anywhere, and this is a normal feeling that is experienced when you are attempting to learn something new or when you wish to make faster progress than you should. You are actually moving at a speed that you need at the moment; some things cannot be rushed or forced.
Walking with somebody else represents the shared path, you are heading in the same direction, it is a message that you do not need to feel alone as there is always someone there to connect with when you need them. People close by know how you feel, it doesn’t matter if it is a friend or lover it will still represent the shared experience. If it is a work colleague, then the journey you are on together is probably about a spiritual bond or your career plans together.
Sometimes in dreams, you walk with a spiritual guide who is trying to show you the way forward or the best path to take, this is especially true if you do not know the person you are walking with. They might not show you the best path but at least you know there is one available.
Consider where you are walking in a dream, are you going somewhere that you have been before? because if you are then it explains how you are going to tread the same path as previously. Are you moving forward without hindrance or obstacles? Are the shoes you are wearing appropriate? This will help you to understand if your current chosen path is going to be easy or not and if you will feel comfortable with the new route your life has taken.

Wall
(Bricks/Cement/Structures)

(Obstacles)
(Dream about a brick wall)
(Claustrophobic Dreams)
A wall is mostly used to explain obstacles that are in your way, you can get an idea as to how difficult those obstacles are by noticing how high the wall is and if or not you manage to find a way through or over it.
Walls stand to keep the outside world out and can also be used to represent a protective barrier that you build around yourself, if someone else is behind the wall and you cannot gain entry then the wall becomes symbolic for the protective barrier that they have built up around them, in this case, the wall is an obstacle for you but the protective shield for them.
Walls also represent dividers that keep people apart for whatever reason, it is common for people who have passed away to be dreamt about on the other side of a wall, but the same notion applies to the people who are alive, you just can’t seem to get through to them.
Talking to a brick wall?

Wallet
(Purse)
If the purse or wallet in your dream is full of money it reassures you that either your finances are improving or that you are earning spiritual collateral, sometimes this type of symbol represents both scenarios at the same time. Empty purses and wallets foretell the opposite and show how you feel broke or broken.

Your imagined worth?

Wallpaper
(Buildings/Decorating/Paint/Patterns)
(Messy House Dream)
If the wallpaper is noticed in your dream the correct translation might come from the condition of it, wallpaper usually represents how we cover and hide what is going on underneath the surface, particularly concerning your home life. For example, a flowery wallpaper might be used to explain how you like to cover over all the bad bits by hiding it with a cheery nature. Therefore the patterns, colour and the quality of the wallpaper should be given some thought.
Thin wallpaper represents the fragility of your attempts to cover things up, people will see through your attempts at hiding things. You may be attempting to cover the cracks in a relationship with flowery wallpaper but in the long run, this will prove futile, it might be best to get back to the bare truth and start afresh from there. Being truthful and mending what's going on underneath is the best course to take.
Perhaps you are stripping back the many different layers of wallpaper that have built up over time, this is a useful symbol of peeling back the layers of time to see what you started out with, you might need a fresh start with a relationship, to get back to basics and remember what you had together.
Redecorating is used as a symbol for sprucing something up that has become worn-out or neglected; we also do it to hide faults and indiscretions.
Walls represent a barrier between us and the outside world and wallpaper are used to improve our personal space and make it more comfortable and appealing, and therefore this type of dream is prompting you to consider the comfort of your home life and the maintenance you must undertake to ensure that your home life remains happy and stable.

This type of dream is often used to describe different personalities and how they get along together, different rooms can represent the divides between people or even different sections of your life and how they all fit together, this symbol has also been used to describe the different aspects of a character or personality, the wallpaper or decoration might be different in each room, describing positive and negative aspects of a person's character.

War
(Battles)
Dreaming of war happens when you have a battle of some kind to win, or when you might have to fight for a cause or stand up for the things that you value to protect them from an enemy. Remember that the enemy may not be a person; it can be anything negative that endangers your inner peace.

Warden
(Jail/Prison)
A warden could represent a person who has power over your freedom. The loss of freedom of expression and personal choice.

The jailer of the inner you?

Warnings
(Danger/Nightmares/Warning Dreams)
Warnings are usually given in dreams by the use of symbols and signs that you personally will recognise, and what is noted as a warning in one person's dream might need to be different in another person’s dream. Most dreams that we have are warning us in one way or another, they are preparing us for events or situations so that we can mentally prepare for the challenges they bring.
If you have experienced something in the past, even in a dream then you are much better equipped to deal with it again.
If there are no challenges to be dealt with at the present time then the dream you experience is more geared towards helping you overcome your own personality traits, the ones that are an obstacle to your growth.

Warts
Annoyances that go deep but can be sorted out easily enough with time and effort.

You must accept someone warts and all. (Maybe yourself)

Washing

(Cleaning/Dirt/Soap)
(Broom/Dirt/Dust/Washing)
(Messy House Dream)
Any kind of washing describes the washing away of negativity and what you are washing may give better clues to the correct translation of your dream but if you are washing clothes you are attempting to freshen and update people's opinions about you. You would like to make a positive impression and hope that past experiences are not going to stand in the way of new relationships or ventures.
Clean up your act?
Washing can explain how you need to renew and revitalise your own ideas and start afresh, a new plan of action must be found and to do this you must have a fresh approach and reinvent yourself and your mindset.

Washing your hair in a dream is a way for you to recognise that you need to clear the negative thoughts from your mind to create order in your life.
Washing your body can be symbolic of washing away someone's negative attitude, negativity can make you feel ill if you can't find a way to block it or remove it. If you can't seem to get clean in a dream then it helps you understand a situation where you are unable to get rid of negativity because it just keeps coming back, either externally, internally or both. In this type of symbolism, the water might be dirty in which case you know its an external source creating the problems. If you are covered in dirt that you can't get rid of then it represents problems building up.
Being dirty can be dreamed about when you do something against your own morals.
Clean water represents clearing away negative emotions.

Waste

(Rubbish)
(Broom/Dirt/Dust/Washing)
(Messy House Dream)
If anything is being wasted in your dream it is because you are wasting your talents, money or energy, look at what is being wasted by noting other symbols.
Wasting your energy on something or someone?
Think of the saying 'What a waste'!
A waste of time?

Wasteland
The symbolism of wasteland often comes up in our dreams especially walking through a wasteland that you don't recognise or know where you are, or how to find your way home.
It's a way of understanding a current or future life journey when you feel lost and alone perhaps negotiating unknown territory in your life.
The waste land helps to describe the barren unproductive time of inertia that everyone feels or deals with at some stage. When you don't have the energy to do anything.
Wandering around a wasteland also helps to describe obstacles in your life that you can't be bothered to deal with, the wasteland might be scattered with debris or discarded objects, things that you have left to rot on their own rather than dealing with problems when they arrive. Lets be honest, sometimes you can't find solutions to problems and they get chucked into the abyss to sort themselves out.
This type of dream often sees the dreamer trying to find their way back home, this just means you want to go back to normality, back to safety. The act of finding your way 'through' is actually you getting through that part of your life, you will get through it! It will pass and you will be able to leave it behind you and move forward.
The derelict stuff or discarded objects should be left behind as well, no good dragging the past with you as you enter a new phase.

Watch
(Clock/Time)
A watch usually signifies the passing of time as you might expect, but what the watch is telling you about time will depend on how the watch is presented in the dream, perhaps you are watching time go by without taking appropriate action, or maybe you need to be careful that you are not running out of time to complete something of importance.
If your watch has stopped in a dream it explains how something has come to an end or that time has run out. You might have missed an opportunity to do something important. Broken timepieces can be used in dreams to symbolise a broken heart.

When time stands still.
It’s time for something to be done!
Watch out?

Water
(Baptism/Boat)

Emotions
The wonderful life-giver in its many forms, it has the power to cleanse, change and instigate growth in its positive form. In dream language it is used widely as a conduit for our emotional energy, it can flow and ebb, get over, under, in and around any obstacle in its way, and how water is shown to you in a dream can help you to understand your own or other people’s emotional transitions.
Fresh clear water links with fresh clean ideas and feelings; it gives us an idea of transparency and of being able to feel and see with an emotionally clear mind.

Salty water represents mixed feelings and the sea is a useful symbol to translate the vastness of emotions and how they can be muddled or confused at times.
The waves and tides help to replicate the way emotions can wash in and out and affect the delicate layout of your life.
Murky or muddy water highlights confused or cloudy feelings and emotions that need time to settle.
Too much water simply equates to too many emotional issues to deal with, this usually causes an over-spill. If there is not enough water in your dream scenario then you know that there is an emotional detachment that leads to a lack of growth or viability. Without water nothing can grow or move, places become barren and unlivable, water is an essential part of life and therefore to dream of a lack of water informs you that an essential part of your emotional processing has changed. Perhaps you are all cried out and your emotions have all but dried up.

Being pulled along with water happens to remind you that you have no choice but to go with the flow.

Waterfall
A waterfall represents the power and flow of emotional energy over obstacles, they provide moving energy and move your emotions to a place they are really needed perhaps calmer waters.

Waves
(Weather below)
(Sea Wall and Giant Wave Dream)
Waves help to express the power and strength of emotions and how they can wash over you; they are useful to represent the natural rise and fall of feelings in their intensity or waning.

Giant waves describe how you can be overcome by your emotions and this may affect everyone else around you. Waves can also help to explain how emotions change the present set up that you have, they move the sand around and create a new different layout. Giant waves can create chaos and move structures (How your life is structured) tsunamis cause destruction and devastation which can have a profound effect on everyone it touches. Very rarely do we experience the actual ending of this type of dream and this is because it's not really known how things will turn out. Strong structures and personalities will not always be affected or moved too far off course by emotional dramas.
Being pushed and pulled around by waves in your dream is easy enough to translate, you are being pulled in all different directions, it seems like you don't have any power or strength to overcome an external force. This will, of course, be an emotional ride you are on.

Wax
(Candle)

Wax can help to explain being able to model and create your own future. If the wax is gone or burned down then you have lost a chance to create and model something that you wanted to do, you can't 'light up' something again.
Lighting a candle can show remembrance and love to someone who you cannot be with.
A lit candle can also symbolise an idea that you have or represent an old flame.
A candle burning down is symbolic of time moving on.

Weak
Weakness in dreams simply means that you have lost your vitality and strength, you are feeling fragile, your personal weakness can be translated this way; Our strengths come from our weaknesses.

Weapon
(Knife/Gun)
Weapons can describe the negative aspects of our own personality, the weapons that can be used against other people or the weapons they can use against us, to cause hurt or pain, emotional blackmail is a weapon.

Weapons are used to weaken your resolve.

Weather
Tsunami Dream
Giant Wave Dream
Plane Crash Dream

The weather in our dreams.

Translating dream symbols about the weather is quite simple and straightforward and universally recognised.

Budding relationships and business ventures.

Winter
(Cold)
Winter is often un-liked, but needed and unavoidable, therefore you might want to move from this phase into the next one but look at it a rest period.
Symbolically winter describes long periods of inactivity which are just as important as the phases where there is active growth.

Natural Disasters:
Disaster Tsunami/Tall Building Dream
Tsunami Dream
Giant Wave Dream
Plane Crash Dream
Sea Wall and Giant Wave Dream
Premonition and Warning Dreams

Things that are quite literally out of your control:
All of these events will be used in dream language to represent the force and power of any situation or person that is destructive or can change the way your life is structured.
It is not unusual for people to dream about these types of major events and then for them to occur in real life. This is when you are being made aware of your own ability to pre-known or predict future events, you are not able to prevent them from happening but your awareness and your own connection to the greater consciousness has now been realised, this will ensure that you become more open and accepting to the messages of your own dreams.

Web
Spiders provide things that are needed; they are creators and have the substance within them to provide you with the attributes you need to succeed. The only time this can create a problem is if you need to learn something like patience or basic contentment or any similar traits which do not come naturally to you.
Spiders weave intricate web designs which take time and effort to create and so could relate to a project that you are attempting to do, perhaps you are working with web design, but this symbol would be appropriate to describe any project where you need to build a strong network or catch the attention of people who can provide nourishment for that project.
A web could also be used in dreams to describe a web of lies.
Cobwebs can help you to acknowledge that a clearing out is needed for a fresh approach to problems. Personal problems are often linked to each other.

Wedding
The joining of forces to create a bigger, better force to be reckoned with.
Congratulations!

Weeds
Weeds grow if they are left to their own devices, this type of symbol can translate a lack of care and attention. If the weeds are growing in your garden, pull them up and clear the lawns of your life.

Weeping
(Crying/Tears)
Tears are usually shown in dreams through the use of water or rain but if you are crying in a dream then a release of pent up negativity energy needs to occur, get it out and you will feel better.

Learn to release your anxiety positively!

Weight

The wheel of fortune is reminding you that what comes around goes around.

Wig
Covering up your insecurities.
Trying to be something you are not?

Window
(Windows and Doors in Buildings)
In dream language windows can be used to represent your point of view, the translation is very similar to glass in that it offers transparency which ensures you are seeing things clearly. Any problems with the windows in your dream help you to understand the obscured view that you have of the outside world or of the people in it, broken windows back this up because the message is that your view is somehow flawed and you are not seeing things as they really are, the same message is translated by dirty windows but it is the negativity that causes your point of view. Sometimes dreams about windows are also informing you about the windows of opportunity that you shouldn’t miss.
Eyes are the windows to the soul.

Wine
The blood of Christ to heal and renew.
Regeneration.

Wings
(Angels/Flying)
Sometimes people have flying dreams when they need to escape the drudgery of everyday life; spiritually you have total freedom and can fly wherever you want to. If you have been unwell or in pain the soul can step out of the body during sleep and experience the freedom and the peacefulness of flying to take a break from the pain.
Angels bring comfort in distress.

To have wings is a way of understanding that you have earned your wings spiritually.
You have wings? Then fly with your dreams!
Your soul needs releasing from restraint.
Your spiritual journey.
Prayers are taken to heaven.

Comfort in distress!

Winter
(Seasons/Weather above)
A cold or dormant phase in your life, the chill has set in where there was once warmth. Winter helps to remind you that life moves in cycles; sometimes we enter a phase that leaves us cold and feeling unloved or numb from trying, but things will change. Time is the most Honourable of movers, it changes everything as it moves things from one phase to another. After the winter everything springs back into life again.
The cycle of life and rebirth.

Wire/Wiring
(Energy)

Communication and connections
Wiring helps to explain the way people are connected to each other and how energy is transferred from one person to another; negative people tend to drain energy and draw it away from people who naturally create positive energy. Wiring also helps you to see how people are wired, or how they think, if someone is confused or a bit crazy this can be described by something that is wired incorrectly. Wiring also provides the energy needed to make something happen and if or not that energy is available to you, this may well symbolise your own energy store.
Telephone wiring can describe the strength of communication with other people, whereas wiring a plug would symbolise trying to make ‘something’ work, or trying to give it life, the object you are wiring will help with the translation, for example, to wire anything that heats up would represent how you are trying to connect with others and give or receive warmth and love.
A network of wiring or cables can be used in dreams to symbolise a network of people or connections that are needed to bring success. The wires and cables in your dream must link or join up successfully to be of use but if something is disconnected it means that people have become disengaged.

Wishing Well
Your hopes and dreams are being highlighted with a nudge to take action if you want to get them into reality.
Instead of saying 'I wish' say 'I will!'

Whirlpool
(Spiral)
A powerful force of emotional energy.
Getting caught in a whirlpool of emotions.

Witch
A good witch might be providing you with the tools to put the magic back in a relationship or to do the things you lack the power to do yourself. A bad witch is seen as a negative draw on your energy and will represent anything or anyone who takes your free will and power to use it for themselves.

Wolf/Wolves
(Animals/Dog/Hound/Werewolf)
To dream of a pack of wolves can describe the hunting aspect of people’s nature, wolves stick together to get the things that they need, and they always protect each other. The wolf has long since been used as a symbol for protection and spiritual strength, this stems from the Native American Indians mythology where the wolf symbolises strength and loyalty and is respected for their hunting abilities.

Wood
(Trees)
A wood or forest will symbolise the mass of learning one must undertake to grow spiritually; walking through a dense wood of trees helps you to acknowledge the varied experiences you must go through to become enlightened.
To be cutting down trees is to be cutting off your own available energy, but it can also be used as a symbol when cutbacks are needed even if they are not particularly wanted, you need to clear the way for new growth to begin.
Things that are made out of wood are useful as a symbol to help you understand when something has lost its usefulness or when one aspect of a role that you play is no longer required, you can then transcend into a new one which is more purposeful.

Cut off the deadwood that weighs heavy on your soul.

Wool
(Knitting)
Knitting can be used to represent knitting together bonds or links so that they can become something of use, for example, family ties can help to keep you strong. Knitting is used as a symbol for when there is a new addition to the family, the wool then symbolises the love and warmth that goes into nurturing an infant and the bonds and links that have helped in the creation of that life.

Work
(Occupation/Job)
Carrying out work in a dream helps you to acknowledge that there is work to be done in your daily or spiritual life.
The work or job that you do in your waking life if often used in dreams to show how you are doing on a spiritual level as well as the physical one.
There is no rest for the wicked, so they say.
You find life hard work.
All work and no play?
Work at it!

Worms
Worms recycle the old and outdated into a new reusable energy source, they are un-liked but very necessary for growth, so they can represent the feeling of not wanting to move on from something that isn’t any good for you anymore, perhaps a relationship. The experience itself has not been wasted because it prepares the groundwork for something more fulfilling, where you are better prepared and more equipped to make things work.

Wound
(Abscess/Bandages/Scar)
Wounds simply represent past hurts that have caused you pain, the healing process could be shown to you in the dream to help you understand the extent of the damage caused. If you have a wound but there is no blood, then you have already started the healing process or perhaps the wound is a representation of hurt that is only skin deep (minor hurt) or you have ‘hardened up’ from previous pain. The size and extent of the wound is a way for you to acknowledge the pain you have felt.

Wreath
(Death)
You need to lay something to rest.

Writing
(Essays/Exams/Ink/Pen/Tests)
To be writing in a dream describes how you are attempting to make a long-lasting impression; you wish to make your feelings heard and understood by putting them out there. In dreams it is usually quite difficult to write anything down, as when you are trying to sit an exam or write a letter, this is an obstacle dream delivered to make you see how difficult you find it getting your ideas and feelings out there for other people to understand.
Small writing describes when you feel small in comparison to other people and that you feel like your experiences are not as important in the greater scheme of things. Not true of course. Big handwriting describes someone confident and outgoing, taking pride in their achievements.
Not being able to write describes a weakness in your ability to turn your ideas into reality, you are not confident enough to move forward with your ideas.
